We just wrapped up our wonderful 11-night stay at Eremo della Giubiliana near Ragusa, and it was absolutely perfect from start to finish.
We stayed in one of the cottages, which don’t receive nearly enough attention or photos in most reviews. They were spacious, beautifully appointed, and provided the ideal private retreat for our family with a toddler. Breakfast is highly underrated—guests constantly rave about it. We enjoyed dinner at the on-site restaurant 3–4 times. The food was very good, and takeaway options made it easy for relaxed evenings on our cottage patio.
The complimentary bikes were a highlight. Riding around the historic airstrip was magical. Few reviews mention it was used during Operation Husky in WWII. Sicily’s rich history means many sites like this have only a small sign. If this were in Canada, it would be a landmark. Staying here truly felt like a blessing—peaceful, authentic, and full of soul.
The hotel staff were elite. Special mentions to waiter Mirko (I believe that’s his name) and our outstanding male housekeeper.
Although not positioned as a traditional long-stay hotel, Ragusa was an excellent central base for exploring eastern Sicily. We never drove more than a couple of hours to places like Taormina.
We couldn’t recommend Eremo della Giubiliana enough. A character-filled, serene retreat with top-tier service and genuine sense of place.

This was one of our favourite stops on our tour around Sicily. After spending so much time in the cities, it was wonderful to relax in the peaceful countryside. The property itself was beautiful, full of character, and felt very authentic. There was ample parking.
The pool, set within a walled garden, was absolutely stunning, although the water was quite cold during our stay. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout, and our room was very spacious. That said, the furniture and bed were a little uncomfortable. There was a spa and some excursions. But no written information anywhere. A summary of activities in our room would have been helpful.
We enjoyed walking around the grounds, although part of the path passed by a small airstrip, which wasn’t particularly scenic. Because of that, I don’t think I would choose to stay in the houses located beside it.
You have to try the almond milk absolutely delicious. We also had dinner in the dining room both evenings, and the meals were excellent.
Overall, this was a charming and beautifully decorated hotel, and we had a lovely stay.

Loved being in one of the cottages on this property that was once a monastery. The restaurant food was excellent. The buffet breakfast was outstanding! The room was clean and comfortable.

This property is absolutely stunning. Every part of the property is special. There are paths leading to small alcoves, quiet corners, gardens, and so many classically romantic spots. Every turn, indoors and outdoors, leads to a quiet spot perfect for meditation or peaceful conversation. The staff are amazing--reception, caretaker, dining room.
Dinner is served in a room featuring candlelight, fine linens, and silver. Breakfast is equally elegant. Overall I would absolutely rate this place 11/10.
