Staying aboard one of the houseboats at the marina was a pleasant surprise. I was back in Marathon to attend a reunion. I had lived aboard a variety of sailboats way back in the 1980's and being aboard an actual floating houseboat for three nights took me right back. Part of the check-in process was the signing of a bareboat charter agreement was a bit of a surprise, but no worries. Even though there is a working outboard motor attached to the stern of the houseboat and an actual steering station on the 'front porch', there was never the intention (nor permission) to go traveling. The cleanliness of the boat and galley was immaculate. The kitchen, while small, was fully equipped. The beds were firm and comfortable. The window curtains did a great job of blocking out the sun or security lighting. The air conditioning (two split units) did a great job of keeping the boat cool even in the heat of the afternoon and were amazingly quiet. I was also surprised at how little sounds from outside intruded into the boat. Aviation Blvd is a busy street but very little traffic noise intruded and the privacy screens kept the headlights from shining in. We enjoyed watching the sunset from the point and having bikes, kayaks and SUP's readily available to use made exploring the local neighborhoods easy.
Our only complaint, which is certainly not the fault of the resort, was the no-see-um's that were active outside before sunset or when the wind dropped. But a liberal application of repellant made them tolerable.
