Staying in an active temple in the sacred town of Koyasan was a memorable experience. Dinner and breakfast were fabulous. Attending the morning ceremony was so interesting and the warm welcome by the head monk was touching. The evening tour of the nearby temple complex with one of the monks was very interesting and done in a personable and relaxed manner. The onsen was great.

A lovely experience overall. I loved the morning prayers so much and everything is nice and clean.
I had hoped to see more of the people living there. After all we were just tourists in a separate part of the temple.

Amazing experience. Food delicious. Morning ceremony fascinating and guided tour by monk so brilliant. An experience we will a long time. Also great onsen- very welcome after our 26km hike to get there. Wish we had had more time in Koyasan.
Also very friendly staff and happy to provide chairs or stools for those of us too creaky to sit on the floor.

Beautiful temple, centrally located
The price is not aligned with the experience at all. Very basic services that you can get in any ryokan and the morning service is just a prayer with tourists, you have almost zero interactions with the monks.. so what’s the point in staying there?
