The location. I stayed at toutou, Oku no Yado (T06) and it was right smacked in the Bikan Historical quarters. Although after 6pm, the area has very limited dining options and it becomes a dead town but if it is peace and quiet you are looking for, then I will recommend this place to stay. My accommodation is clean, spacious and comfortable. Bread, butter and jam are provided complimentary and the bread is so soft and fluffy! They also provided an assortment of fruits - Muscat Grapes, a huge apple, a kiwi and a banana. The drip coffee was also good! There a were 2 types of tea provided - hojicha and red tea, which was a nice touch.
The fact that all the shops closes ard 6 pm and eateries at 7pm. But I guess cos this is a tourist spot, and most of the day tourists leave by 6pm.

This is one of the best accomodation experiences I've had from many. Check in was simple as was access to the room (keycode). We had T5 room and it was better than the photographs, in particular it was very light. Just amazed at the level of attention paid to every possible detail. Bed was slightly above floor level (tatami) on a comfortable mattress. Shower room (with bath) was luxurious. Breakfast of three types of fruit, bread and a local jam was great and hit the spot after days of hotel offering. Teas and coffees provided also local. This is a fantastic property right on the canal front. A traditional Japanese style room that is very comfortable for all.
