Our stay at Tanakaya was a magical experience! We loved the charm of the room, the classic Japanese tub and having laundry in room was so helpful. The front office staff was great about any of our questions, provided Cold Brew in the AMs and even helped us arrange for our luggage to be shipped to our next destination. We didn't want to leave!

Loved our stay at Tanakaya Kyoto, a boutique hotel with only 8 spacious suites, ideal for 3–4 people. Our suite had a charming tatami tea room, beautiful traditional woodwork and carvings, a cute old-style Japanese bath/shower, plus an in-suite laundry machine. We also loved the small lobby with free coffee and front desk service. The location was ideal—quiet and local, yet about a 15-minute walk to the Shijo shopping area, and only 3 minutes to the underground station and passage network that connects you across the city. It felt warm, distinctive, and much more special than a standard hotel.
