About this apartment rental
Ruhpolding is a popular vacation destination in both summer and winter.
Summer season: The mountains beckon for hiking, mountain biking, e-biking, paragliding, and golf. Or head to nearby Lake Chiemsee to relax. From the Rauschberg, on a clear day, you can enjoy a spectacular panoramic view stretching deep into the Alps or all the way to Landshut. You can reach the summit via a 3.5-hour hike (1,000 meters of elevation gain) or by aerial cableway. Other popular destinations include the Unternberg, the Hochfelln, the Hörndlwand, and the Staubfall, which serves as a crossing into Austria. Everywhere you go, you’ll find fresh mountain air and first-class water. From May through early October, it’s a constant delight for all nature lovers. Mountain biking or cycling tours in the surrounding area are possible almost everywhere. A hang gliding school and a golf course round out the offerings. The Chiemgaucoaster summer toboggan run can be used almost year-round.
Winter season: Every January, the Chiemgau Arena hosts the Biathlon World Cup. You can experience the world’s top athletes competing live. Tickets are usually sold starting in the fall or summer of the previous year. Biathlon introductory courses are held weekly at the Chiemgau Arena. Ruhpolding and the surrounding area feature over 100 km of groomed cross-country ski trails, which are generally open from Christmas through mid-March. Snowshoe hikes are also very popular in the surrounding mountains. The Ruhpolding Ski School supports anyone interested in improving their skills or enjoying sports and the mountains in a group setting. In alpine skiing as well, beginner courses right here in Ruhpolding—especially those for children—are a popular attraction and are available throughout the season. The nearby Winkelmoosalm/Steinplatte alpine ski area, with approximately 50 km of alpine slopes of all difficulty levels, invites visitors to enjoy alpine skiing up to an altitude of 1,869 m (about a 20-minute drive or bus transfer).
Ruhpolding is connected to the German national rail network via its own train station. With just under 7,000 residents (primary residence), it boasts a variety of pubs, a large wave pool with an adjoining outdoor pool, an ice rink, a summer toboggan run, a golf course, and a selection of traditional clothing and sports shops. A police station, the mountain rescue service, the fire department, a local specialty hospital, several pharmacies, nearly all major grocery stores, a home improvement store with an attached recycling center, and several medical centers round out the amenities. The district seat of Traunstein is only a 25-minute drive away and offers a full range of amenities. Lake Chiemsee is also only a 25-minute drive away. Lake Königssee near Berchtesgaden is just 30 minutes away. The Mozart city of Salzburg can be reached in 40 minutes. A trip to Munich’s Oktoberfest by bus or train is also a welcome change of pace.
