Le Luminarie Sassi is a historic residence located in the heart of the Sassi of Matera, offering an authentic experience of the ancient city, where the evocative panorama of the Murgia Plateau blends with ancient rock-cut and Romanesque architecture. Situated in the most picturesque part of the ancient Sassi districts, it can accommodate up to 2 people. It is partially subterranean (carved into the rock) and overlooks a small panoramic square (an ancient neighborhood) featuring a cistern for collecting water. The charm and sense of serenity that characterize the outdoor spaces—which are fully equipped and ready for use— is complemented by the unique character of the interiors, marked by the presence of “luminarie”—illuminated architectural decorations typical of southern Italy—a creation of local master artisans. After having brightened festivals and fairs, these pieces have been carefully restored and now illuminate and adorn our home.

A beautiful apartment on the edge of the Sassi area in Matera. It was tastefully and stylishly decorated. The host thoughtfully provided water, milk and a few essential food items which were very welcome. The location was superb, looking out towards the Murgia plateau. And because it was on the edge of the town it was easy to find and get to with luggage, not too many steps. Everything in the apartment was comfortable and very clean - comfortable bed, good shower.The host was responsive and got back to us quickly with answers to any questions. Her communication was excellent, particularly about parking and how to get the shuttle bus to Matera, which was very easy. We had a lovely time in Matera, it is an amazing place.

It was interesting living in the 'cave' . We had a wonderful experience. Onr of a kind! Lorella was a very good host. Breakfast stuff was good and again the experience is worth it.
