Nice little town but I can not recommend booking this apartment

We have rented nine accommodations in France during our five weeks of travel in 2026. Unfortunately this was the least pleasant one. At least the elevator worked to the fifth floor and the apartment is not far from the nice part of the town. It is quite sad I was unable to find much positive aspects about this accommodation.

The entire apartment is located in the attic on the fifth floor of an apartment complex. Luckily the elevators were working and we visited in autumn, not during the hot months (there is no air conditioning). The communication with the host was almost non-existent, best described as painful. We told the host in advance that we have no phone service in France. We arrived within the time we have advised. However, there was no one waiting for us. We had to ask random people on the street to call the local number of the host. Then we were told someone will attend in about 20 minutes. After 30 minutes someone from the complex (not the host) handed over the keys and introduced us to the apartment. The apartment is not kept clean and it is generally a bit run down. Kitchen utensils and the bathroom required cleaning before we could use them. The attic ceiling is very low. We had bumped our heads in the ceiling repeatedly, especially in the bedroom where the ceiling is slanted both ways. We are not tall people, the ceiling is indeed very low. The bed linen was clean but all polyester, not really a nice feeling for sleep. There was no oven, only a microwave with grill function. The hair dryer was missing. On leaving the apartment we had to ask for instructions. Then we have left the keys on the lounge table in their original envelope, leaving the apartment open as instructed. A few days later the host repeatedly contacted us enquiring about the keys. This was the worst apartment service we have encountered during this trip in France.
