⚠️ Think Twice Before Booking – Unsafe Bed, Filthy Toilet and Disappointing Owner Response

Hunstanton and surrounding area.

Extremely Disappointing – Unsafe Bed, Poor Cleanliness and No Satisfactory Resolution Our stay at Ladybird Cottage, Hunstanton, from 9–12 October 2026 was extremely disappointing, and I would struggle to recommend this property based on our experience. The condition of the double bed was completely unacceptable. The slats had clearly been poorly repaired, and the bed collapsed when we tried to use it. I ended up having to rebuild the bed myself, during which I hurt my back. As a result, we had to abandon the double bed and use the single beds instead. This is not the sort of problem anyone should have to deal with when paying for holiday accommodation. A bed should be safe to use, not a DIY project waiting to happen! The owner subsequently explained that she had arranged for someone to repair the bed and had assumed the work had been completed properly. Unfortunately, whatever maintenance had supposedly been carried out was clearly inadequate. The cleanliness was equally disappointing. On arrival, the toilet bowl had clearly not been cleaned properly, with a substantial amount of faecal matter left in it. Quite frankly, this was disgusting and completely unacceptable. Basic cleanliness is the absolute minimum expectation when booking a holiday cottage. What has made this experience even worse is the lack of a satisfactory resolution. I raised my concerns and gave the owner and Booking.com the opportunity to address them. Having returned home, Booking.com informed me that they had been unable to reach an agreement with the accommodation and offered just £35.91 in Travel Credits as a gesture of goodwill. I find this wholly inadequate given the circumstances. The issues were not trivial inconveniences: we had an unsafe bed, I injured my back while trying to deal with the problem, and the bathroom had not been properly cleaned. I appreciate that things can occasionally go wrong with holiday accommodation, but what matters is how those problems are dealt with.

Very disappointed - Should have read the reviews better before booking

Great central location

After a 2 1/2 hour drive we arrived to find no basic provisions that we would have expected, I was especially disappointed by the lack of ANY toilet paper, sugar and coffee. The slats on the main bed fell out on the first night and I have to repair it myself. There is no lock on the bathroom door, plus it was very difficult to close. One of the supplied towels had a large stain on it. We had to clean some of the glasses before we could use them as they were dirty. The ironing board had no cover on it. A sign on the entry gate saying Ladybird Cottage would be useful.
