The bed was very comfortable -- pleasant surprise! The room and bathroom were clean, and the duvet and bed sheets were pleasant to the touch. The location is very quiet. The hotel is set back from the seemingly not very busy road. We overnighted here on the way back from the Uig ferry terminal following 2 weeks on Lewis and Harris, and only had time to make a stop in Portree and then visit Talisker distillery before things closed down. For people wanting to tour around Skye, there are undoubtedly more convenient locations that are closer to the most popular attractions, but we were just passing through Skye to get back across the Channel via the Shuttle train, so for us the location was good. We appreciated that the Isle of Skye Guest House accepts pets, as our dog was traveling with us. We put his doggy bed in the little closet, left one of the doors open, and he seemed very satisfied in his cocoon and stayed out of the way! Dogs are not welcome in the breakfast room, and we didn't want to risk our dog barking in the room, so we put him in the car while we ate. The parking was free and sufficient. We stayed in the "Garden rooms" at the back, and there are a few spaces next to this where we could park, so bringing in luggage was convenient. We had help over the phone with someone (presumably from the hotel) when we checked in. I was having wifi problems and couldn't access messages from the hotel about details pertaining to check in and entering our room, but thank goodness the property had a telephone number posted on the front door, so the man who answered my call sorted me out easily and politely. (Thank you!)
The shower door was problematic. When I slid it open, it came right off the track upon my initial push. Luckily, its wheels still rolled along the shower floor and I was able to prop it up and continue my shower with no other issues. The radiator/heating unit didn't seem very effective. Some of the furnishings (curtains, carpet) were quite shabby. We didn't open the windows because there were faded stickers on them warning us about the midges -- it would be nice to know if this also applies in autumn temps. The breakfast was nothing special, but ok -- at least it included some hot cooked food. Regarding staff -- apart from a person who made a quick visit to refill some of the breakfast items (and who did not attempt to interact with the guests present in the room), I did not SEE any staff at all. Unfortunately, there was not a "does not apply" option in the criteria above for evaluating staff. I'm not a fan of a "faceless reception" in accommodations, especially if I have questions about the property. For example, there was very little information in the room about the hotel -- we didn't know if we were allowed to play with our dog in the green space behind the hotel or not, so we didn't. Other than checkout time, there was no additional info given, such as what to do with the key. (We just left it in the room.) There does not seem to be much happening in this town. According to Google maps, it seems to boast only 1 restaurant (Indian); this is just a 5-minute walk from the hotel, so we had dinner there. The nearby lake is lovely and there's a nice lakeside walk where I took the dog. I walked about 1.5 km further into the town as it was a wet day, and didn't see anything other than tour buses and buildings with residential/tourist accommodations, so I can't say what else there might have been.

Great location.
The room felt cold and damp. Mould on skirting boards and wallpaper looked like it was pealing off. The room smelt of damp.
