there were tons of amenities, including a yukata for you to wear. the staff was very friendly and the room was beautiful.
the private Onsen was super, and there was always a free one available.
the food was very very good, especially the meat.

I’ve stayed in many places in Japan, but the warmth of the staff at Ryokan Gizan is something I’ll remember for a long time.
They were friendly, helpful, dedicated and patient. This is true Japanese hospitality, and honestly the best way to immerse yourself in Japanese culture.
The ryokan is in a small rural town, so I wasn’t expecting much in terms of comfort, but it went well beyond my expectations. Despite the limits of a rural location, the staff went above and beyond to make every guest feel welcomed and cared for.
The private outdoor onsens are beautiful, and you can use them late into the night. Dinner was excellent, with Hida beef as the star of the meal. You can tell the ingredients are of high quality, and that care shows in every dish. Overall, it had been an unforgettable stay.
Thank you to the whole team at Ryokan Gizan for such a memorable stay. I hope you never lose what makes you special.
One small suggestion: Breakfast on Day 2 was more or less the same as Day 1, with Hida beef curry as the main dish. To be fair, it is the best beef curry I’ve ever had, so having it two days in a row was okay for me. But for guests staying a third night, a bit of variety might be nice.

A los of activities, sake noon, free yukata, fabulous private onsen, very friendly staff, if you need dinner you can buy vegan ramen there
Dependency on bus and very isolated, and a lot of bugs (but it’s normal because we’re in the middle of the nature)

The hotel is near Shinhotaka Ropeway. It takes only 14 minutes by car.
The hotel is run down. There are 4 private onzens but there is no shower before taking into the bath in each rooms. Regarding the food, we inform the hotel in advance that one of our group can't eat beef. We don't have any problem for the dinner, they can provide us with pork. However, they still serve beef for breakfast and say that it is unable to change. We don't understand while they can change for dinner but can't change for breakfast. The price for our stay is quite expensive comparing with the service received.
