Good location

Location was excellent. Plenty of local parking. Host was very accommodating and acted quickly with heating requests. Plenty of toilet paper, basics supplied like tea towel and washing up liquid. Beds quite comfy Pleased to see a second toilet on the ground floor.

The house is in quite bad repair. Lots of marks on the walls that could be easily rectified. Very dirty, crockery needed to be washed before used. Broken glass in the cupboard and broken toaster handle. Back door not properly closing so draft coming through. Distasteful smell throughout ground floor masked by air freshners. Carpet very thin and in bad repair on stairs and landing.

Not recommended - an unpleasant experience

The house is situated in a good location - walkable to the town centre, and with shops and a park nearby. After the issues we experienced, we enjoyed vacating the property too.

There were many issues, and because of them we chose to vacate very early in our stay. On arrival, there was a strong drains/plumbing smell coming from the kitchen which - due to its strength - spread through the house. The host attributed this to old paint (!), and it later became clear they had been aware of this smell but not informed us in advance or on collection of the keys. We contacted the host, who visited, installed air fresheners, asked us to keep the windows open, and said the smell was “fading away”. It wasn’t. Such was the strength and unpleasantness of the smell, I worried about what my children were breathing in - and throughout our stay it gave me a strong headache. Then there was the back door, which did not sit properly in its frame - there was a large gap in the rubber seal. Such was the size of this gap, it let in insects and wasps - and, on arrival, we were presented with a row of dead insects adjacent to the kitchen door that had made their way in. When we told the host this, he suggested it was due to the windows being open. Even with closed windows, insects and wasps continued to make their way in. This was not hygienic and nor did it feel safe. Exhausted by the experience, tired of the lack of resolution, concerned for my children’s health and wellbeing and with a stinging headache from the awful smell, we chose to vacate after three nights. We asked the host to refund the remainder of our stay, but they refused. But that is another story.

The host demanded a 200 pound deposit that was never mentioned during the booking process to be paid into a private bank account and the didn’t answer my calls so I cancelled the booking as the deposit could take 2 weeks to be returned, smelled of a scam to me
