Very clean and the staff were very helpful
My daughter stayed in the Queen’s Room and unfortunately misjudged the depth of the large step down into the bathroom, resulting in a fall and as a result broke a bone in her foot. I would strongly recommend installing some form of lighting to highlight the change in floor level and make the step more visible, helping to prevent a similar accident happening to another guest. The breakfast was good, although I was surprised that no fruit juices were available. I hope you will take these comments constructively, particularly the safety concern, to help improve the experience for future guests.

The property is visually impressive, with beautiful furnishings, elaborate décor and a real sense of luxury on arrival. My Presidential Suite was striking and the surroundings have enormous visual impact. The staff were a particular highlight of my stay: consistently friendly, welcoming, pleasant and willing to help. I especially appreciated the housekeeping team, who responded extremely efficiently and thoroughly when I raised an issue with my room. Their attention afterwards was excellent. Breakfast also had some lovely touches, particularly the beautifully presented fruit, yoghurt and granola.
Unfortunately, there was a recurring inconsistency between the appearance of five-star luxury and the experience actually delivered. The most concerning issue was finding hairs in the jacuzzi/bath of my Presidential Suite on arrival. I raised this directly with management before dinner and offered to show the photograph I had taken. Although the subsequent housekeeping response was excellent, a Presidential Suite at this level should have been immaculately clean before I arrived. Grand_Lux_Boutique_Manor_FINAL_Review.df I was also extremely disappointed that the advertised sauna was unavailable, particularly because it was one of the reasons I specifically chose the hotel for a relaxing two-day break. I was initially told it was being renovated, but was subsequently told it had apparently been out of action since the load-shedding days, with no confirmed date for its return. Had I known this before making a non-refundable booking, I may have chosen another hotel. Dinner reinforced the same feeling of inconsistency. I paid R550 for the three-course set menu. The steak was acceptable, but the advertised “vegetables of the day” amounted essentially to one very small carrot alongside the mashed potato. When I asked for mustard, I was initially presented with a large yellow plastic squeeze bottle and, after questioning this, the commercial mustard jar itself was brought to the table with a spoon. These may sound like small details, but at a hotel presenting itself as five-star, presentation and attention to detail matter. Breakfast reflected the same inconsistency. Some elements were beautifully presented, yet sauce was brought to the table in its commercial bottle, butter was individually pre-packaged, sugar and sweeteners came in sachets, and finished plates and used items remained on my table for an extended period. None of these things is particularly serious in isolation, but they felt incongruous with the elaborate luxury surroundings.

All great, including staff and breakfast, except being kicked out of property at check out after being pushed for paying a late check out fee and tentative of paying an additional night.
The reservation stated a check-out time until 11:30. However, between 10:30 and 11:00, we were repeatedly asked to leave the room by 11:00 or pay a late check-out fee to stay until 13:00, which we agreed to. After checking out at around 13:10 and paying the additional fee and tip, we were immediately told to leave the common areas of the property unless we paid for an extra night. This was particularly frustrating, as we had an important business call scheduled and had planned to work from the property, which appeared to have ample available space. As a result, we had no choice but to take calls from our car. We managed to complete only one call before the manager repeatedly insisted that we leave the premises entirely, which we did at 14:30. As a frequent traveler with gold and platinum status across several hotel chains, I have never encountered anything like this. Even a Booking.com agent stated they had never heard of such a situation and advised us to leave for our safety. Throughout our stay, we remained polite and respectful toward the staff. Out of courtesy, I insisted on carrying my own luggage so the older staff member wouldn’t have to. Unfortunately, this experience gave the impression that the owner’s policies prioritize additional fees over guest experience, placing staff in an uncomfortable position. On a side note, the rooms would benefit from proper blackout curtains, as the current white curtains allow a significant amount of light through, which made it difficult to sleep.
