Rude, unpleasant host with poor communication
It's a large property, kitchen well furnished, a little far from everything but within walking distance. It is old and run down and needing damp proofing but is cheap. It was generally quiet though we also had noisy neighbors who blasted music first thing in the morning and woke us up. There are some security issues with the mode of entry into the property. The negatives outweigh the positives due to the host's poor communication and rudeness.
This was, by far, the rudest and most unprofessional host I have ever dealt with.
There was virtually no communication leading up to our stay, and I had to chase for basic information about how to access the property. Even then, the instructions were unclear, so I had to contact the host again for clarification.
It took us so long to access the property that, once we finally got in, we barely had time for dinner before leaving for a pre-booked show. We therefore did not have time to properly check everything on arrival.
It was only when we returned later that evening that we discovered there was not enough linen or towels for the number of guests clearly stated on our booking. When I called to get this resolved, rather than apologising, the host blamed me for not raising it when we first checked in.
I explained that we had not had time to discover the problem before leaving and, more importantly, that the correct number of guests was clearly stated on the booking, so I could not understand why we were being blamed for the property not being properly prepared.
The conversation then became extremely unpleasant. The host told me I should be happy with what I was getting because the property was “so cheap” and accused me of calling him more than ten times and taking up his day. This was untrue, and I have the phone and text records to prove it.
A lady was eventually sent with the missing linen and towels, but the way the situation was handled was completely unnecessary and put a real dampener on what had otherwise been a lovely day.
For me, whatever saving there may be on the price is simply not worth the stress of dealing with such rude and unprofessional communication. Booking.com kindly offered me a small goodwill gesture after I reported the experience, and I understand they were also unable to get a response from the host. I am genuinely surprised the property continues to be listed on the platform.
