Loved the location. House was nice. General Maintenance was poor.
The location was fantastic! Only a block and a half from the center of Lerwick. A walker's dream and close to bus stops. Restaurants abound near the house. A small grocery was merely 2 blocks away. A fine Wine Shop was just down the lane and many nearby coffee cafes opened at 9am.
The house was very well furnished and tastefully decorated. The kitchen was very adequate although the refrigerator freezer needed defrosting.
The water pressure was good and there was adequate hot water for three showers.
Generally a quiet location but for the Saturday night bar crowd down the street. Not enough of a disturbance to take away from the rating.
We felt that the rate we paid for our stay was a good value.
I would rent 9 Mounthooly again but there are issues you should be aware of before you rent.
We experienced sporadic plumbing issues with the toilets not flushing properly and requested a plumber; however, we were never informed if anyone came, though the issue did improve toward the end of our stay.
Additionally, a few basic requests were addressed at such a late date, including bathroom cleaning and replacing missing hallway lightbulbs, that it seemed impractical for only 2 days left of our stay. We would have thought that for a stay of that length a housekeeping visit would have been made.
For a group of three staying 13 nights, providing only one bath and hand towel per person was insufficient, especially since drying them with the provided washer and no dryer was very slow. We were eventually given a bag of bath towels.
General maintenance was inadequate. Light bulbs were missing, as well as not enough lighting in the living area. The washer door was extremely hard to open. A note explaining how to do it would have been very helpful.
Broken glass on the fireplace unit prevented us from using it and should have been replaced before our visit.
Finally, adding a hand-held shower attachment to the downstairs tub would be a helpful upgrade.
We never met the hosts, only phone conversations and the main contact was "in (not) and out" for our stay hence the rating.
Overall, we had an enjoyable stay at 9 Mounthooly; if we come again, we'll simply coordinate these details ahead of time.

Shetland stays are all expensive, but would book this property again without hesitation.
Property was will situated for the town centre, and everything we needed was in walking distance.
Local bus services cheap and regular to most of the Island at £2 per journey, regardless of distance.
Property warm and spacious with smart TV, ideal for the rainy days.
Brilliant natural light through ceiling skylights.
Kitchen well equipped.
Host responded quickly to a change in heating settings, which was appreciated.
Beds and linen very comfortable.
More external signage would have helped find the place as there are several addresses using the same building.
Only 1 shower on upper floor. A full house would have made this tricky.
Not everything worked, some lights didnt come on, maybe new bulbs are required. Cooker extractor also. Had to keep all doors closed when cooking.
No dustbin attached to the property. There are communal waste collection on the main street, although host did inform us.
Host warned us also of lack of parking. For a holiday with a car, the town centre has a car park on the harbour as there is hardly any near the property. Locals parked on the double yellows without apparent penalty.
The location is, as advertised, perfect for strolling into town. There’s a large free car park a 5 minute walk away too. There’s place is a good size but only has one shower and one bath so for a large party that might be an issue. The kitchen is well provided for. The information for arriving was timely and comprehensive. They were happy for us to drop off luggage earlier.
Some of the decor and furnishings are a little tired. The instructions to find the keysafe included a reference to a tattoo studio which we never found.

Light and roomy, good Wi-Fi and looks good. Superficially clean with great location.
Jacuzzi bath didn’t work which meant the jets couldn’t have been thoroughly cleaned.
Had problem with washing machine not unlocking and there was no manual with the rest of the handbooks. Googled for manual and solved the problem but in the process discovered a long dead mouse in a trap behind the kick board.
Couldn’t get cooker hood to work when the oven was being preheated and you could see the smoke, from the deposits of fat etc in oven, swirling around. On opening the oven door to place food inside, the kitchen was left foggy from the smoke and yet the smoke alarm did not go off ?!?!
The arrangement for the locking doors was such that we were left feeling a little unsafe should someone attempt access.
