I have to be honest. When I saw the score for Smile Lanna Hotel I thought it was influenced by bots.
Nothing could be further from the truth. This is a true gem and an amazing place to stay in Chiang Mai, especially if you're travelling with children.
Simple in its setup but extraordinary in its execution. The breakfast is one of the best we've seen. Great barista coffee, the usual breakfast spread with the addition of some local Northern Thai brekky favourites.
The rooms are bright, immaculate and they come with free drinks and snacks.
The extras truly make the experience wonderful. Our kids loved the crafting during breakfast, there's a free shuttle to the night market and the happy hour, with free coffee/tea and snacks, is amazing.
The family rooms are magnificent and sleep 5 comfortably.
In short, this place is worth its score. You should go!

Great bed and clean accommodation.
Complimentary bracelet making lesson.
Very nice staff.
Some people on staff, while nice and accommodating, do not understand English well and do not indicate their misunderstanding properly leading to misunderstandings.

Bed linen and towels were good quality and changed daily. Good location for what we needed.
1. Air con unit in room worked poorly and clearly had not been serviced or cleaned for years, see image.
2. Got an electric shock from table lamp.
3. Many cracked and broken tiles in pool.
4. Basic breakfast options and quality was poor. Poor has not been cleaned for possibly years looking at the white/yellow drains and algae on pool edges.
5. Bed was Louie sleeping on a brick.
6. No cushions on balcony, resulting in not being able to sit on wooden benches, very uncomfortable.
7. Door had a large gap when closed, poor locking mechanism.
8. Room 209
9. Every day approximately 3pm on to entrance to block B the stench of sewage was present.
10. Bathroom was very small and shower tiling poor quality and finish.
