Caretta Hotel

The location was fantastic. The views were incredible. We loved being right on the ocean and not having to go to a separate beach club. The owner (Murat) was incredibly friendly and gave us some great ideas as to what to see in the area like Kokova (the Sunken City) and varius beach coves. The staff were friendly and helpful and quick to address any problems. We had a leaking shower hose, which was replaced within 5 minutes of being mentioned. The breakfasts were great and substantial portions. We only had one evening meal there which was also tasty. The hotel is rustic, but we liked that. Thre are a lot of. stairs, which we like, but something to be aware of if you are not very mobile.

There was nothing that we didn't like.

Excellent location away from the centre of Kalkan (which can be busy/noisy). Very good access to sea. A really charming hotel with a lovely family atmosphere.

Everything was good.

The hotel was located at a cliff and had an amazing view which was the highlight of the property. The room size was big. There is direct access in the water from the hotel cliff which made it fun.

The breakfast options were limited, with not much variety to choose from. The room lock was complicated and inconvenient to use, and the lighting inside the room was inadequate. The hotel’s location was another drawback, as it was relatively secluded and approximately 1 km from the main downtown harbour. Walking back to the hotel at night felt uncomfortable and a little scary due to the poorly lit roads.

We just finished a two week stay at the Caretta Boutique hotel in Kalkan. I have been a genius level 3 member of Booking.com for many years and stayed in all types of properties. Both my husband and I agree that the Caretta was our absolute favorite. It felt like we were living in a Disney movie and Haley Mills would pop out of the picture perfect sea at any moment and rush up the stairs past us. This is not a 5 star luxury property so don’t expect it. If you want that go to Bodrum. What this is is a property with heart, soul, natural beauty and charm. Murat and his team are the epitome of Turkish hospitality and they have provided a place of exceptional refuge for those willing to find it. We would start each day watching the sun rise from our sea view balcony then saunter downstairs for a freshly provided breakfast of cheese olives tomatoes cucumber meat and always with a basket of fresh bread and unlimited cay or coffee. A walk down the hewn in the rock stairs and you can hop into the water for a morning swim. Occasionally a turtle or even dolphin and schools of fish can pass you by. Another cup of coffee and then a lovely stroll to the market or a secret swimming cove or an ice cream on the boardwalk can fill your mid morning. Afternoons were for napping or playing a game of backgammon on the veranda. We found no need to go into the expensive restaurants unless we were in the mood for a dress up and we would almost every night order absolutely delicious, worthy and affordable food from the kitchen on the property. They would deliver it to our room within the hour and we would enjoy it in privacy under the stars at our table on the balcony. For us the entire stay was paradise and we are so thankful to Murat for sharing something so special that he and his family created with the rest of us. WE WILL be back and are already dreaming of that day.
