On a much more positive note, the service at the reception was fast, professional, and very friendly. Additionally, the blonde girl working at the lobby bar was extremely pleasant and made us feel very welcome.
I have stayed at multiple 5-star NAU hotels in the past and hold a lot of affection for the chain, but unfortunately, NAU Sao Rafael Suites falls short of their usual standard. While the hotel is generally okay, it simply does not deliver a true five-star experience.
The rooms are noticeably lacking in maintenance. We found damaged furniture and dirty walls, which is unacceptable for a hotel in this category.
The dining experience was also underwhelming. The buffet has a very limited selection of dishes and completely lacks the "show cooking" you would expect. Breakfast is missing standard items that other hotels easily provide, such as made-to-order omelettes.
Service was another weak point. It was consistently difficult to find a clean table, and getting staff to clear one was often met with reluctance and a poor attitude. I will say, however, that the service did improve slightly during dinner.
Overall, while I still appreciate the NAU brand, this particular hotel is far from the standard I have come to know and expect. It needs significant improvements in upkeep, food variety, and customer service.

The pools are lovely and the hotel is in a great location. The food was generally good, and we appreciated the manager taking the time to listen to our concerns. Following our conversation with her, we did notice an improvement in the restaurant service, which was positive. Having stayed here previously, we know the hotel has the potential to offer a much better experience.
Unfortunately, the hotel has noticeably declined since our visit last year. The pool bar was closed throughout our stay, something we were not informed of at check-in. This was extremely inconvenient, as we had to get dressed and take the lift upstairs every time we wanted a drink. With only one bar operating, there were often long queues, made worse by guests ordering several drinks at once.
We also discovered that one of the restaurants was permanently closed, again without any explanation at check-in. These are significant changes to the facilities and should have been communicated to guests in advance.
The room cleaning was below the standard we would expect, the sunbeds were tired and well overdue for replacement, and a loose fire door rattled constantly in the wind, disturbing our sleep.
Most disappointing was the restaurant service, which was nowhere near the standard we experienced last year. After three days, we felt it necessary to raise all these issues with the manager. To her credit, she listened and was receptive to our feedback, and we subsequently noticed an improvement in the restaurant service.
However, guests should not have to complain to receive the level of service and facilities they have paid for. Although there are positives, the overall standard has deteriorated considerably, and sadly we would not return.
