Paulos Valletta is one of the best hotels we ever been, and we were lucky to be in quite a number up to this point.
The location is fantastic, just a minute or so from the center of beautiful Valletta. The hotel itself is more like a baroque palace than just a hotel. The rooms were fantastic. (Booked two, one for us, one for relatives) Decorated lavishly to fit perfectly the historical setting without feeling over the top. The roof terrace was one of the highlights of the hotel granting a spectacular view onto Valletta's Grand Harbor. The breakfast was tasty, diverse and nutritious. Everyone could find what they were looking for. But all this would be just great, but the lovely Maria and the friendly and helpful staff is what elevates the experience to PERFECT level all with capitals. Thank you Maria and the staff for all the help, friendliness and support. We strongly encourage everyone to book Paulos Valletta to experience true Maltese hospitality and be near to the vibrant heart of Valletta. Thank you.

Staff were amazing, we got there earlier than check-in and we left luggage to explore - really safe and no issues at all. Excellent communication throughout. Very traditional and in keeping with the area, which made the experience more authentic and personal. The roof top had amazing views.

The location of the property is excellent and the view from the roof terrace is amazing. The bedroom area felt clean . Both times we contacted the owner , our query was dealt with efficiently .
We negotiated the dark hallway of what felt like a museum to the stone spiralling stairs . As we had cases and the stairs were well worn in places we decided to ride by lift …… we are two slight 60 year olds with 2 hand luggage cases ….. imagine our alarm as we entered the lift and it dropped a few inches! The door closed and we went on our way with a flickering digital display …. We reached our floor but we did not risk the lift again during our stay.
The kitchen area was out-dated and far from clean with corroded aluminium , a greasy over- hob extracter and grease deposited on decorative plates on the wall . It was also Ill- equiped - no pan had a fitting lid , there were no oven gloves or a tea towel .
The sofa in the kitchen area faced a brick wall - we were excited to locate a couple of windows behind blinds but these looked onto breeze block walls, sadly
The bedroom area was better - it felt clean and bright . The bed was a bit soft and creaky but we slept okay . Sadly, the air con had broken flaps so you could not direct the air flow nor alter the fan speed .
The bathroom relied on a window with no insect net for ventilation . The shower door did not fit, which resulted in a flood however careful you were. Whilst mopping up said flood the black mould and flaking paint were all too apparent . The rusty mirror did not improve our reflections.
We had cause to call the proprietor twice during our stay and both times our call was answered swiftly and our question answered immediately
The Roof terrace offers a wonderful view of the harbour but it is slippery when wet and therefore locked and out of bounds . The plastic floor boards felt a bit dodgy in places as did a few handrails - not for the unsteady ! I had not digested the information correctly when booking and so I was disappointed not to have a pool - purely my own fault - and to be honest fortuitous, given the overall maintenance of the property .
