We stayed in the main hotel in a large room with great views of Kiso Fukushima. The onsen was wonderful. We had the Shogun dinner one night and ate at the nearby Izakaya restaurant the next (both excellent meals). We also pre ordered the western breakfast which consisted of eggs, sausages, salad and croissants. A great place to base yourself for the Nakasendo walk between Magome and Tsumago.

Good location for people walking the Nakosendo Trail and visiting the post towns. Kiso Fukushima is well-connected and has a historical area, some museums and restaurants worth visiting. A special mention to Hiro who was so helpful by message before we arrived. He recommended a great restaurant in the town for our second night, Hida Tei, which we all really enjoyed. He is such a nice man and a real credit to the inn. We also loved Japanese pyjamas! And the beds are really comfortable. There is a nice little jazz bar along the street that is also worth a try - chat to the owner/barman.
This was our first time in a Japanese style inn and we did not really know what to expect exactly. Once we got the idea of the onsen bath rather than having private bathrooms, we enjoyed the different experience. We found the special dinner at the inn to be a bit formal but we appreciated all the effort that was made by the staff to make us happy and to take care of us.
