Hollin House Hotel

Nearly everything !! Particularly excellent food in restaurant. Very comfortable room and beds Very attentive helpful staff. Lovely exterior views of building and landscape.

(1) Plumbing and drains water flow noises heard in night. (2) People and luggage/furniture movement noises heard in night (3) Very fine classy old building but with less good sound insulation.

Breakfast was poor, hot breakfast very low quality so called scrabbled egg was appealing, quite inedible. Cold breakfast choices were not replenished. Very disappointing indeed.

Breakfast!! See above.

Check-in was friendly and speedy. Breakfast had plenty of choice and was also served speedily. The Room it was served in was light and airy. The hotel had an interesting history which was very well documented. It is situated in a beautiful area and there was a helpful leaflet describing several scenic walks.

The corridors leading to the bedrooms were dingy and in need of redecoration.

Nice character in the main entrance area and they left out a jigsaw for guests to build, a very nice touch that I haven't seen elsewhere.

The room we were assigned was in the newer part of the building. We did not sleep at all that night due to poor sound insulation between rooms. At one stage, between 10 and 11pm, I could hear 2-3 television sets from adjoining rooms and bathroom activities of guests in the room above. The bathroom was dated and in disrepair. The toilet paper holder was broken, as was the lock in the door. There was mould coming through the paintwork and on the shower curtain and dust on the shelf below the sink. We asked for a different room and were offered a suite but this had litter from previous guests visible behind the bedside lockers and the bathroom floor/shower area was in need of further cleaning.
