Bastimento is ideally located in Fiorenzuola, near the central piazza and its church, with plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. It is evidently owned or run by the Hotel Mathis, a more modern hotel on a major thoroughfare, where at least for now you check in and get your key to Bastimento. Staff at the Mathis made all of this easy, with a fine welcome. Bastimento's are large and comfortable. I enjoyed my stay. Excellent choice for Via Francigena pilgrims.

A major disappointment—unwelcoming and neglected.
We were shocked by our experience here. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a sign directing us to check in at a completely different hotel a block and a half away. We returned to find a building that felt totally abandoned. The lobby echoed with random furniture including an old barber's chair, and the hallways were uncomfortably dim.
The room itself was bare-bones, featuring an uncomfortable bed, threadbare towels, and no extra blankets. Worse of all, the shower had visible grime in the tile grout. This place has a lot of catching up to do on basic cleanliness, comfort, and hospitality. We would not stay here again.
