The Thornbury Castle is stunning. We stayed in the Jane Seymour suite which was beautiful and had great amenities. We enjoyed drinks in the lounge and library. The 3-course menu was perfect and served by great staff.
Our stay started out bad. The receptionist was decent, at first, but went downhill quickly. We asked a few questions and with most of them she snapped back with attitude. She assisted with carrying my terribly heavy suitcase to the suite. We had only one bill (due to this being the last day of a 2-week trip) so we unfortunately didn't tip her at the moment. Once settled, we moved our car and then went back in to ask for change so the tip could be given. I have NO IDEA what her problem was with us, but she refused to look at us nor speak to us. The other receptionist had to step in and tell us it is a no cash facility and that we would need to drive to the post office, in town, to get change. I stated I just wanted to give her, looking at the lady who had previously assisted us, a tip. She had the most disgusted look on her face and would still not acknowledge we were standing in front of her. We were upset for several hours trying to figure out what we could have done that was so off putting. She either dislikes our nationality, people who ask a few questions or wasn't given a tip on time. Who knows. Finally, we decided she wasn't worth ruining our short stay there. The only other issue we had was with the bathroom in our room. The shower didn't drain properly so water ran over the lip. We had to use all our towels to address that. But that wasn't a big deal.
If the Thornbury Castle cares about the customer service that is provided...we arrived on Thursday, 8 October, around 3pm. The poor receptionist was a dark-haired lady. She truly shouldn't be the first impression guests get at this wonderful place.
