Great location and well-fitted apartment, late check-in was accommodated, and the staff were very communicative too. I think as long as you let staff know as soon as you can what time you can check, there won't be any waiting issues, as some reviews did mention. Additionally, I didn't have an international phone number either, but staff were happy to communicate through a popular messaging service to accommodate.
It was very noisy, but that is maybe to be expected for the area, almost being right in the middle of the CBD. If you are a light sleeper, I would recommend earplugs. Wasn't an issue that affected my stay but the bathroom door in my room wouldn't close. On booking.com late check-in is listed as being 25 euros extra, which I didn't have a problem with knowing we would be doing so well in advance, but for some reason it appears this has gone up to 30 euros when I spoke to staff, and it isn't listed anywhere, which was a little bit of a shame.

Good location and shops nearby. Very comfortable bed and linens. Elevator worked and it was quiet even though downtown. We didn’t need it but there is a washing machine. It was 36C in Madrid but the apartment was comfortable.
They use an air freshener that smells like perfume and is way too strong. It needs some kitchen basics but all the equipment is there.

The location of the apartment was great-everything is in the historical center of Madrid is reachable by foot. The accommodation itself is very well maintained and clean. The host is really attentive to your requests. At check-in we got our room early, because it was already available. At check-out we were able to store our luggage for a couple of hours.

Good location and spacious
The smell of cleaning products is very strong and almost suffocating. We felt so dizzy and the smell sticked on the pjs even after leaving the property.
