Located in a proper Japanese countryside location next to a river. You can go fishing and swim in the river. There's a café on the far side of the river which serves excellent food and has a drink bar. I stayed in a shared dormitory where I was provided with very clean sheets and bedding. The staff speak great English and are very friendly and helpful.
I shared a dormitory with young people. They were polite, but a little noisy late at night. No fault of the facility, but I wouldn't recommend a single older traveller staying in the shared dormitory during busy periods.

The lodge's ambience is wonderful. Wood house, Lake, Mountain, and Staff are touched. Breakfast is also nice.
