Crown & Mitre Hotel

The location of the hotel in the centre of town was fantastic.

The staff we found with the exception of the restaurant Peace and plenty were not as friendly or helpful. Checkin staff were not helpful. Being from another country and not knowing the city we asked where to park our car. The lady handed me a piece of paper with a postcode on it. That’s for parking she said. We put it in the Navigation and it took us eventually to what we thought was parking which is a parking garage where you pay. Further up trucks were unloading for Marks and Spencer so we thought this must be the parking. We later realised that had she given better instructions we should have driven to the end of the street where there was a gate saying the name of the hotel with a buzzer to let you in. On checkout it was the same. Not even a how was your stay? In saying that the staff in the Peace and Plenty were lovely and the food was very good.

Visited previously and knew what to expect. A grand place in its day.

Room 206 needs to be gutted and revamped. Floor to ceiling, walls and especially the bathroom. This room is not up to acceptable standards.

Property had character which made it interesting. Staff were very friendly and breakfast was tasty with a good selection of food.

It was a little shabby in places and a bit dusty in the room, but nothing that mattered.

Facilities in main hotel good. Breakfast good

Disappointed that the room was in an annex across the car park. The room itself was modern, small ,adequate woth a view of a brick wall. No hooks to hang anything. Bathroom cramped
