The room was spacious, comfortable, and full of character, with beautifully detailed woodwork and a wonderful selection of paintings, rugs, objects, and art and design books. These thoughtful details give the hotel a distinctive personality and make the interiors its strongest asset.
The dinner was acceptable, and the spa was pleasant but nothing particularly memorable. Breakfast was decent, though not especially noteworthy.
The biggest disappointment was the service. The hotel seemed significantly understaffed: even the bar was completely unattended, which made the overall experience feel rather underwhelming given the setting and the hotel’s apparent ambitions.
Overall, a beautiful interior with plenty of charm and character, but the service and some of the facilities do not quite live up to the potential of the place.

The lobby was impressive and ornate
The ‘Idyllic garden view’ was actually a view of the roof of the rest of the hotel.
The pillows were so soft that even when asking for a firmer pillow I was given yet another soft one so ended up sleeping on a couple of towels instead. Despite asking for the steam and sauna to be turned on and being told they would be nothing happened and we left the cold pool and a half later. The ‘mini bar’ consisted of two small bottles of water in the fridge.

Breatfast was great, so was the overall grandness of the building, it felt good to be in such a historic villa.
The whole experience felt transactional and much too businesslike. There was no sense of personal attention by staff. The gardens were not attended to, looking neglected. It felt the hotel was fantastic in the 90s and early 2000s and has lost its appeal. It could be so much better though if staff would make people feel more at home, welcome, and would be adding little personal touches. I had bought the stay as a birthday present and expected it to be more special.
