The mountain and lake vistas are incredible no matter what the weather. We were lucky to experience both the blue sky and the far more moody clouds that came with the gentle rain.
Our little apartment in a lovely, atmospheric village above Varenna dated back to 1907.
We welcomed the tranquility in the village. the bird song, and the absence of any tourists, unlike the town below.
the mind-blowing vistas in front of the old church square next to our apartment were the perfect compliment to the glass of wine we shared each evening. No another soul anywhere.
And the lovely walk, descending along a series of old and well trodden walkways, past villas and olive groves that lead into town each morning.
Pure heaven.
It was perfect.

Perledo and this accomodation are perfect if you prefer more rustic and local atmosphere a bit further off Varenna town. Our host Livio was very helpful and vontacted us early before our arrival.
Since we arrived very late in the evening, the accomodation and the key box were a bit hard to find in the dark. A better sign and front lighting could help late arrivals.
