Our stay at Fudo-in was truly exceptional and an unforgettable experience. It is a rare opportunity to experience the hospitality of Buddhist monks, taste meals prepared by them, and take part in the chanting of a sutra together.
The room was spacious and spotlessly clean, with a main area featuring a table and welcome tea, a small additional room with a wardrobe and table, and a private toilet. The futon mattresses were very comfortable and warm. We also had the opportunity to use the public bath, which was very clean. It was an incredibly relaxing experience. The vegetarian meals were delicious, with a variety of different dishes to try. Dining there was an experience in itself and a memorable part of our stay. We were warmly welcomed and made to feel very comfortable throughout our visit. The monks were kind and helpful, and we knew we could count on their assistance if we needed anything.
We highly recommend Fudo-in to anyone looking for an authentic, peaceful, and truly special cultural experience. It was much more than just a place to spend the night!
Everything was wonderful, and we wouldn’t change a thing! Just keep in mind that the property closes at 9 p.m., and breakfast and morning prayers take place early, at 7 a.m. It’s good to be aware of these arrangements when planning your stay. All these details are communicated clearly in advance, so you know exactly what to expect and can plan your stay accordingly.

Fantastic Shukubo , in traditional surroundings. Walking distance to most things. Great staff. Waking up early to join the morning prayers.

The food was excellent - both taste and presentation.
We were allowed to check in early.
The location was very accessible.
Please provide slippers for women (we were tripping because they were too big). We were not allowed to walk through the Garden. There were no showers except for those in the onsen, which provided no privacy at all and was only open from 4 - 8:30 pm.
