We were genuinely surprised by how wonderful our stay at Murataya was. This place exceeded all our expectations and turned out to be one of the most memorable accommodations of our entire trip to Japan!
Murataya is a charming traditional Japanese inn, and the experience begins even before stepping inside. Surrounded by more modern buildings, its beautiful traditional exterior immediately makes you feel as though you’re stepping back in time.
Inside, everything is beautifully maintained and managed with incredible care and attention to detail. The staff were exceptionally kind, welcoming, and helpful. We arrived before check-in time, and they kindly allowed us to leave our luggage at the property. When we returned later, we were pleasantly surprised to find that our bags had already been taken to our room! Such a thoughtful gesture that made us feel welcome from the very beginning.
The staff also personally showed us around the property, explaining everything we needed to know. Later in the evening, they even brought us hot water so we could prepare and enjoy a delicious cup of tea in our room. Another lovely touch!
Our room was beautifully traditional, with tatami flooring and futon bedding. And believe it or not, this was actually where we had the best night’s sleep of our entire vacation! The futons were incredibly comfortable, and the atmosphere was so peaceful and relaxing.
The bathrooms are shared, but this was absolutely no problem for us. They were spotlessly clean and very well maintained, and we never encountered any other guests while using them, so we always felt completely comfortable.
Another wonderful feature was the traditional Japanese bath, which could be used privately rather than being separated by gender. We could simply lock the door and enjoy a peaceful, relaxing bath in complete privacy, which was perfect for unwinding and recharging after a long day of exploring Kanazawa.

Large room, with private toilet and shower - so assume the „shared bathroom“ in the description refers to the little onsen (which can be used privately as well). It is a bit far from the station, but close the attractions. For 1 night a bit inconvenient, for more it’s ideal I guess.

Very traditional Japanese style hotel.
They don’t have slope and stairs. Only public bathroom and shower rooms.
