traditional Japanese house, unique stay, very responsive hosts.
Only downside was that it was on a busy main road, so very noisy traffic at night (they do provide earplugs)

This traditional house was very charming, and we enjoyed our stay.
We were provided with yukatas, and the house was cleaned twice during our five-day stay, which made everything feel especially comfortable. The Japanese breakfasts were very good. We also tried the Western breakfast, which costs the same, but in our opinion was not at the same level.
Communication with Kuraya was excellent. They accommodated an earlier arrival when they could, which was extremely helpful after a 23-hour journey, and someone came exactly on time to let us into the house. Throughout our stay they were responsive to all our needs, including when we needed some extra time for check-out.
The location is not particularly special, but the price is very reasonable, and the house has a lot of charm. It feels genuinely traditional and old, while still being very well maintained.
Overall, we had a very pleasant stay and appreciated both the character of the house and the excellent service.
Nothing. The only drawback is that there is not really a comfortable place to relax inside the house. There are no couches, and although the common area works well for meals, the traditional low Japanese-style seating, with your legs under the table, was not especially comfortable for spending the evening.

Staying at Kuraya Kamigojocho is such a lovely experience. The house is spotless and lovely, the staff are kind. We loved the little garden and it was so cosy in the rain.
It would have been useful to have some hooks to hang the towels on after a shower but it’s such a minor detail that it doesn’t affect enjoyment!

The bath that looked over the garden. But that is all.
The property is well worn and needs maintenance. The photos do not show this.
Its on a busy street and I could not sleep due to the traffic noise. There is a bar next door and voices can be heard at night.
There is a washer but no dryer so it takes a long time to air dry clothes. There is nowhere to hang clothes.
The sink for washing your face and brushing your teeth is in the kitchen.
It is overpriced.
There are very few restaurants nearby. It is far from the train station. It was difficult to get a taxi.
