Okay to stay property in Grand Baie area

Owners were nice people

It was not clean as there were long female hairs all over the place in the apartment. Long hairs were there on the floor of bedroom, on the floor of bathroom, in kitchen area, in bed linen and even in the towel. Bathroom area including the shower area was really small as compared to the size of dining area and bed room area.

Outstanding host and excellent value for money

The host was outstanding; you would struggle to find a better one. He was always helpful and attentive, anticipating what you might need. The location was also excellent, being close to the town centre, the beach, bus stops and shopping malls. It is about a twelve-minute walk to each of the main shopping malls and each has a large supermarket. Although Grand Baie Beach is about the same distance, there is a nicer beach, La Cuvette, just another ten-minute walk from Grand Baie Beach. Larger beaches are accessible by a short bus or taxi ride. The express bus to Port Louis is about fifteen minutes away on foot if you want to catch it at the beginning of the route (every half hour on the hour and half hour). It takes about forty minutes to reach Port Louis. The guest house itself is in a fairly quiet area and seemed quite safe, especially since the host and his family live on the premises. There is also street lighting in the area. My unit had a nice balcony and a large kitchen that included a microwave and large fridge freezer. The beds were firm but soft on the surface, so very comfortable. The air conditioning worked well but I hardly ever used it due to the time of year I was there. Overall, this is excellent value for money. Nearby resort hotels charge ten times as much (I actually checked out of curiosity!).

The Wi-Fi would sometimes stall out, so you would either need to reset it on your device (switch it off and then back on again), or create a hotspot through your mobile phone. You can get an inexpensive tourist SIM card that will allow this. The television was a bit temperamental with the sound and there were only two channels in English. The hot water was inconsistent due to the rooftop solar heating system used in the area. Sometimes I would get a trickle of hot water and other times I got a lot. On the warmer days I had visits from ants, but this happens in tropical and subtropical areas and can be fixed with bug spray, which the host has. I also had a visiting gecko that probably entered through an open window and again, this happens in places like Mauritius.

Great stay minutes away from the beach

The owners are very friendly and accommodating. We felt safe and well looked after. We’ll definitely rent this appartement again because it’s good value for money & the hosts were great

It would be nice to have blockout curtains
