Riad Chameleon

The staff at the riad was absolutely sweet and went out of their way to make us comfortable and welcome. They made reservations for us for dinner, they gave us directions to help us navigate the medina. When we went on an excursion and left early, they arranged for a breakfast to take with us. I have a difficult diet, and when they found out I couldn't eat many of their breakfast items, they found a way to accommodate my diet. The room was right next to a beautiful pool on the ground floor. The bed was comfortable. The room was a little tiny and we had a few experiences where we nailed our knees or shins on the bed frame, but we figured it out. The location was good and uncomplicated to get to from outside the medina.

I really wanted to give this property a higher number, but we had a significant problem that really colored our experience from the beginning. When I asked the Riad management to help me find a guide to the Merzouga and the Sahara for a camel ride in the desert, they arranged for a private guide in a luxury camp. We were very excited for this excursion. I asked them weeks in advance if they needed a credit card for a deposit on the trip. They said "No credit card is needed in advance. We can arrange the trip and confirm everything for you without any advance card payment." One could conclude from this exchange that credit card payment for the excursion would not be an issue. However, when we arrived the hotel staff informed us we could pay for the room with a credit card, but cash was preferable. That was a red flag for me, so I asked about paying for the excursion with a credit card. I was told that the excursion would have to be paid in cash only. This excursion was almost $800. Not only do we not carry that kind of cash with us, we also don't travel with our ATM cards and have never used our credit cards for cash advances, so we had no PIN to access the cash. I told the management to cancel the excursion. Apparently, the Riad management had already placed a cash deposit for the excursion. They tried to negotiate. I told them many times we did not have the cash to pay for the excursion, but they sent an emissary from the main office to come plead with us to still take the excursion. At that point, I had already scrambled to find a tour and had made a non-refundable reservation (with my credit card) for another vendor for the excursion. They wanted me to cancel that and then implied (but were not clear) that we may be able to pay for the excursion with a credit card and they would give us a discount. I explained, again, that we didn't have the cash, and that we had already made other arrangements. It was a big disappointment.

All the staff were absolutely outstanding. They could not have done anything more for us. The Rhiad was beautiful, the room was comfortable and clean & the breakfast was delicious. Particularly the mint tea.

Everything! The Riad was beautiful and very clean. Rooms were very spacious and breakfast was absolutely amazing! The staff is simply the best and most helpful.

The beds could be a bit bigger and matras softer.

The location of the property was very good, you can reach out to everything you need to see. Moreover the property was so amazing, so clean and so beautiful. Even the terrace and the breakfast you can get, was an amazing feeling and the perfect start in the morning. And the best thing of the riad was Hagrid, the best and lovely cat you can find, thank you!
