Classy Hotel & Spa

The Classy Hotel, also known as the Classy Lady by the expat community of Battambang will not disappoint. I have stayed there three times during my travels, and the hotel attracts some high-level Cambodian customers. This time, I stayed in the Deluxe Double Room. You can trust that you will be comfortable here and well-looked after. The hotel has an elegant atmosphere which starts in the foyer. Grand staircases and intricate wood carvings greet you as you enter. Statues and engravings picture traditional Cambodian artwork inspired by its many temples as well as some French colonial and Chinese influence. The breakfast is elaborate with a lot on offer. All the regulars are there with the egg and noodle station, decent coffee, tropical fruit, stir fried vegetables, rice, and a more nuanced bakery selection. The rooms are big and roomy. The wooden furniture is tasteful and expensive. Inside the room, we had an excellent desk and chair to get some work done, a large wardrobe ensemble, which included shelves and sections for the kitchenette. Bedside tables, comfortable chairs and a large bed were included. A couple more drawers would have been nice, but the room has an aesthetic that puts the mind at ease. The roomy bathroom is excellent with a walk-in, enclosed shower. Over my three visits there seem to have been some changes. Jaya Café in the foyer is new taking the place of some enormous wooden chairs that used to be used for waiting guests. The breakfast room is a little tight so, I recommend going early to get a good seat and beat the rush. The sky bar and restaurant attached to it used to be one of the highlights of staying at this hotel but it was closed while I was there on my last visit possibly for refurbishments. Some hooks to hang towels on and a shelf in the shower for personal toiletries would have been good.

Classy Hotel & Spa was so much better than I expected. I loved the pool, the food and the massage—everything about my stay was wonderful. The staff were lovely, and I would happily stay here again.

The pool is generous, with plenty of room both for showers and changing rooms. The rooftop bar offers a wide selection of cocktails during happy hour.

The pool is the only thing saving this hotel from a zero-star review. Classy hotel is traditional but by far the most outdated I have ever encountered. The staff is unpleasant; they welcome you with fake smiles but won't make an exception for anything. I remember arriving late in the evening when the hotel was almost empty because many people had cancelled due to the ongoing strikes along the Thai-Cambodian border. Despite this, I was not given an upgrade, but a shabby, old double room. Nor was I offered a late check-out so I had to leave the room first thing in the morning. The breakfast was satisfying neither in terms of choice nor quality. I was travelling alone, and this is definitely not a place to socialize.
