We wanted to stay outside the business district and found this hotel on Booking.com. The brand was unfamiliar to me. It is owned by the construction company that built the building.
The hotel is around the corner from Formosa Boulevard MRT station, an easy trip after arriving on the Taiwan High Speed Rail from Taipei.
We arrived around lunchtime and were told we had been upgraded and a room was ready. The size of the room amazed me, as did the décor and the small touches. Off the lift lobby on our floor was a seating area with views in two directions. The room had several international power outlets, a workspace, a lounging area, an excellent bathroom, and a great king-sized bed.
The reception staff were warm and engaging. They took a genuine interest in us as people rather than treating us as clients to be processed. After checkout, while we were collecting our luggage for a late-afternoon HSR, one of the reception staff chatted with me at length about our travels, where we were heading next, and why we chose those places.
The buffet breakfast was excellent, with a large variety. I am gluten intolerant and found plenty of options. The buffet bacon sat on bread, so I asked for fresh bacon to be cooked, and they obliged without fuss. Omelettes are made to order.
Each day the minibar fridge held two cans of drink, one Coca-Cola and one Sprite, included in the room cost.
I highly recommend this hotel. Two tips for the area. First, Formosa Boulevard station: if you want the Orange Line and enter via Entrance/Exit 6, the walkway runs between two separate Oran
Dinner at the restaurant was good, with a few minor slip-ups, such as cutlery not being set and chicken wings arriving without wipes or a finger bowl. I am scraping the bottom of the barrel to find areas for improvement.
There is a business lounge with complimentary tea, coffee, and snacks, though it is better suited to meetings than to work. There are no power points near the seats and no tables to work on.

The "gym" advertised is a joke. It consists of couple of treadmills and an exercise bike. I was extremely disappointed to find this out when I went to check it out. It is incorrect to call it a gym and have the hotel come up with search result when you filter to only hotels with a gym. Their website and description are vague regarding this, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was by design to deceive. Having an on-premise weight-training gym was high on my criteria when selecting a hotel, and Hotel Dua plainly misled me.
Breakfast is bad, and I can say this with confidence as I had it for 4 mornings. It was included free on a promotion I got, but looking back now I would not had taken it for free, as now I wasted my mornings on pure calorie-intake meals instead of exploring proper breakfast joints available in the area. This was my first city I visited in Taiwan, and I initially thought that "maybe I just don't like pork floss" as each morning it smelled and tasted off for me in Dua. But, when I had it outside Dua it was actually delicious?! To add to that, breads often had still frozen parts and in general it seemed no dish was prepared with true care. Spread is wide, I give them that, but I would rather have less choice and better food than a huge buffet where everything is subpar.
My biggest concern regarding the hotel was the shower drain. When I checked in and went to take a shower immediately, the drain seemed blocked and flooded the floor. I went to complain and almost immediately we had a plumber do something: very fast reaction from the staff, which I appreciated! Whatever magic they did, helped for a day but after that the drain again got worse and by my last day I was actively turning shower on and off when washing to prevent full-on floodage. I reckon it is an issue of design which a simple plumber visit cannot fix.
