Helpful staff at breakfast.
Poor quality room in the grotty Annex, with grubby, tired and stained bathroom (see pics). Absolutely unacceptable for £131 per night. Key card to room didn’t work at first necessitating a trek across the car park back to reception; always annoying, that one.
We rejected the Annex room and were offered a room in the main building which was up 2 flights of stairs but marginally better, albeit still having a tired and stained bathroom.
Missing lampshade in the room.
We were told that the toilets were stained ‘because we’re not allowed to use bleach’. Maybe so, but other cleaning methods are available.
The pub food in the restaurant was OK but inaccurately described in parts (eg ‘Rosemary and garlic potatoes’ had no seasoning at all, ‘clotted cream’ was spray cream, ‘berry compote’ was tinned cherry pie filling.
All in a very disappointing experience and we won’t be using any Marston’s Inns hotels again.
