Spa is lovely and had one of the best hot stones massage. Food good, some tables a bit small.
Due to the olde world design of the buildings, our room was really hot - only one small opening window. Also we are 'cold-loving' people - always have windows fully open at night all year and thermostat set low by many standards. The fan was a godsend - outside day time only 20, but must have been hard in the heatwaves. There was a large picture window, but this did not open.

A beautiful location and grounds
We enjoyed parts of our stay, but overall, we felt the experience didn’t quite live up to expectations, particularly given the prices of the drinks and spa treatments.
We only stayed for one night, so we were disappointed to be woken at 8am on Sunday morning by an envelope being pushed under our door containing a formal invoice and reminders about payment and checkout. With checkout not until 11am, this felt unnecessarily early, especially as we were already aware of the arrangements. Receiving a formal bill first thing in the morning made the stay feel a little less special and gave the impression that the focus was on settling the account rather than allowing guests to enjoy their final few hours. We would have much preferred to receive the invoice when checking out, as you would normally expect. It did change the feel of what should have been a relaxing and enjoyable stay.
There were also a few items on our bill, including tea and coffee, that we hadn’t had. We queried these and they were removed, but it was disappointing to have charges added that weren’t ours in the first place.
The staff were all polite, but the service felt quite impersonal. A little more conversation and a simple question about how we’d enjoyed our stay at checkout would have made the experience feel more welcoming.
We also found a wet flannel left in the shower when we arrived, which wasn’t ideal.
Overall, the staff were pleasant, but the stay lacked some of the personal touches we’d hoped for. A few small changes to the guest experience would have made a real difference and helped make the stay feel more special.
