Discovery Resorts - Wilpena Pound

The resort is in a really beautiful location and is staffed by a very friendly, helpful, hardworking and efficient team. It was great value for money. The “welcome to country” and talk from a local Ranger was a lovely start to our stay. We enjoyed excellent meals in the restaurant every day. The buffet breakfast was plentiful even though the resort was very busy during the school holiday and the dining room was full. The dinner menu offered an interesting variety of delicious meals served by great hospitality staff( Ishtavan was exceptional in looking after us, not sure of the spelling of his name but that’s how it sounded!) Nearby walking tracks offered the opportunity to see The stunning Flinders Ranges area and clear information was available advising on the suitability of each track for different abilities. Most of the tracks near the accomodation were disability friendly in spite of damage from the recent floods in August. We were lucky to see the area in full bloom after the rains. We booked the sunset tour with Karan whose local knowledge, love of the area and expert driving made for a memorable evening. Would highly recommend this activity. The one hour scenic flight over Wilpena Pound and the surrounding countryside was another great and awe inspiring experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Discovery park and would definitely recommend it as a base from which to explore this amazing part of the country.

Nothing spoiled our stay and there was nothing we didn’t like but there are a couple of ideas to make it even better. Somewhere to unpack our suitcases and hang up our clothes in the room would have been good. A couple of clothes hooks behind the door in the bathroom to hang up towels/ clean clothes would be helpful. The only towel rail was next to the open shower area so everything got wet! Toaster, Crockery and cutlery to make our own simple breakfast or supper would have been good.

It was a great place to stay at Wilpena Pound with lots of walks directly from the location. We didn't eat breakfast there. We enjoyed the dinners although not huge but on our third night we felt the serve of fish was extremely small - it just came on a scrape of sweet potato mash and not even a salad or anything and only a very small piece of barramundi

The location was great. The 'glamping' tent was nicely laid out. We had dinner at the restaurant on the last night and the meal was perfect [we both had the Porterhouse steak].

I don't think that there was anything I 'didn't like' about the whole experience. I would go there again, but for a little longer stay.

Lovely location

Bathroom was dirty, toilet looked Iike the bowl hadn’t been cleaned for months it was brown and manky, smears on white quilt covers, no tea towel or scrubber provided for kitchenette (had to go back and ask for these). No sharp knives or chopping board in kitchenette with seems like an essential item when paying for an added kitchen facility. Overall room was cleaned very poorly before our arrival which with the price it cost we were very surprised. Not had to scrub a toilet bowl quickly, honesty looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months. Bathroom walls also had dirt and mould. Lovely location but the resort needs to lift its cleaning standards
