Mercure Maidstone Great Danes Hotel

The welcome on reception from a lovely lady ensured the start of our stay was exceptional. The room was large, clean and the bed and pillows comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful of choice and cooked well.

There was an odour in reception (not chlorine) smelt like old carpets. The corridor required painting and the doors updating/painting. Lino and carpets in the eating area have stains and scuffs. Toilets in ladies changing rooms require attention, no toilet paper and plumbing issue.

Good facilities, use of the spa included and breakfast had a good range too.

Property in general looked and felt a bit worn out. The spa especially needed a lift

Easy to find and accessible from motorway.

A bit of a maze to find our room.

We stay here at least twice a year when visiting France, and usually everything is excellent. Great location, good breakfast, rooms usually first class.

Allocated room no.5000 - a 'suite'- up lots of stairs with no lift. Bed hard, windows draughty and not noise-proof, bathroom like an old hospital-type one which really needed upgrading. Only lukewarm water available in the morning, and toilet not flushing properly. Reported to reception, on check-out, and was asked why we didn't report it as we could have been moved. We needed to use bathroom, breakfast and check-out quickly in order to reach Eurotunnel, if we had phoned to report we'd have had to pack, unpack, use bathroom, etc. Just ensure that facilities work before selling the room! Time to find a different hotel I think, as loyalty doesn't mean anything to Mercure, unfortunately.
