Period property with some interesting features and wonderful, wooded and overgrown grounds to stroll around. We very much appreciated the upgrade to a convenient room in the main house. There were two parties happening and whilst we were aware of children being active, it seemed arrangements were well managed and the atmosphere was calm and quiet overall. Staff were attentive and courteous. The Gilbert & Sullivan performance was brilliantly performed and the evening well organised.
There was no reception room where one could sit quietly in comfort. Everywhere feels like a through-way. The hard flooring of the bar made it noisy and utilitarian and there were no comfy seats apart from a couple of sofas in the lobby area and on the landing outside the toilets. In addition, it felt a bit ragged around the edges - not shabby chic -just needed more maintenance:- old windows do not fully close, the bathroom tap ‘hot’ button was missing, the bed linen ‘runner’ was marked and needed washing, ceiling stains and torn wallpaper in various rooms. Staff were very lovely and fairly efficient, but we felt they needed a little more training to raise their professionalism and improve customer service.

Breakfast adequate. Staff super helpful especially helping us to our room in the Grand duke up the fire escape
I think grand duke room not suitable for elderly guests if the access is via outside staircase.

Pleasant stay in lovely grounds.
I stayed in the main house and due to a conference I was not allowed to access reception or the main rooms. I was informed by the cleaner to access the external iron spiral fire exit which was wet and I had luggage which was not acceptable but I had no choice.
