Great location, nice room - comfortable and clean. Friendly helpful staff and a lovely cooked breakfast.
Wish it had its own car park - finding a parking space took a little, but that is a common problem in Brecon and is not unique to this hotel.

I liked the location.
I had to wait over an hour to receive my meal in the evening due to there being insufficient staff .

Bedroom: The rooms were clean and spacious. The beds were very comfortable with clean bedding. There were plenty of lighting options (bedside, overhead). On the down side, the headboards of the bed were a little worn, with a little flaking from the vinyl covering.
Bathroom: The bathroom was basically clean, although there was some mould on the shower door, and I think the shower door leaked a little. It just felt like everything needed a refresh, rather than being unhygienic, but the shower itself was excellent, like a standing bath!
Overall, rooms are basically clean and comfortable but need some updating and investment.
Food & Drink: This was where The Wellington lost most points. The food was.. well....fairly shocking, tbh. It absolutely did NOT reflect the quality described on the website. We had 3 vegetarians with us and the spinach & squash tart was actually SLIMY and clearly had been frozen for a long time. The vegetables were old and shrivelled. I think everything had been microwaved. I actually couldn't finish mine. The meat eaters fared slightly better but they said it was only 'ok-ish' rather than actually good (they had sea bass/ pie/burger - the burger was better) . The chunky chips were excellent, though. We FOOLISHLY also had breakfast there, thinking that might be better, but it was actually worse and left everyone feeling slightly nauseous. The 'avocado' on toast was a thin veneer of green paste that might have come out of a tube, seemingly not directly from an avocado. The poached eggs had a weird, disturbing, spongey consistency that I have NEVER experienced before (how did they do it - microwave again?) and the toast was supermarket absolutely cheapest brand. REALLY bad. Part of the problem might have been that the hotel seemed chronically understaffed. About 2-3 people seemed to be doing everything. But we got the impression it's not the fault of the staff themselves, but perhaps instructions from the higher management of Marston's chain making efficiency drives (for profit?). It must be expensive to run a big hotel like this. For this reason, we didn't want to make the life of the stressed staff any more difficult by complaining at the time. Hence this review.
We were there on a Saturday night in October half term, to give context. I understand October might be quieter, but even so, the food was definitely poor.
