We have visited Bovey Castle for more than 20yrs and have seen many changes over that time. Fortunately Bovey Castle still remains an absolute treasure in the most wonderful piece of countryside.
As a result of the management changes things do change - care should be taken by the Bovey staff to maintain a good knowledge of how to light and keep alight a fire in a fireplace - it's sooooo important to be able to sit by the fire.
Also we had a particularly unfortunate breakfast experience where the food had definitely been left under a heater for way too long and was inedible. This sort of lack of attention really does leave the wrong sort of memory.

Very relaxing great place to unwind. Lovely location . Plenty to do if you don’t want to drive.
As it wasn’t full it was difficult at times to find bar staff you had to locate them if you wanted to place an order. I also think if you don’t want to eat in the restaurant that there should be a Lounge menu served up to 9.00pm if you just want a sandwich etc

The bed was comfortable and the castle and grounds were mainly nice.
The food was overpriced and really below standard. We cancelled our dinner reservation for the second night as it was really bad. The interior particularly the spa is dated. We had to wait for literally 20 minutes to be shown to our room whereas we could have just been given a key. We have been before but sadly we won't come back after this trip.
