hotel friends Essen Zeche Zollverein

The room on whole where super comfy. We slept really well: good mattresses, and comfy cushions, and great photography on the wall. The shower was good. Breakfast looked small but actually MORE than enough great ingredients and breads and cereals.

A few things: There was no kettle in the room, and no complimentary water or anything. so rather bare minumim: a comfy room and shower and toilet. We would have liked to have some tea/coffee making facilities. Second it was quite noisy outside: even though nothings going on as it's in the Zollverein confined old mining factory, we heard lots of people outside with cars and small vans coming and going and talking loudly, probably bringing and colecting things for the hotel. This happened on both nights we where there and both around 2 am and 3:30 am. And lastly we had a strange exchange with the barman: When we came back on our second evening after dinner around 9 pm we fancied a drink and maybe a little snack for our kids. My wife went to the bar where no one was there. She waited for nearly 10 minutes. Then a barman came and before she could order a guy walked up (friend maybe), moved in front of my wife, and the bar was empty besides my wife, pushed her to the side, and ordered a beer, which the barman gave and walked off together to the conference room where this man was watching a soccer match. We where so mad at these people. HOW DARE THEY! Step in front of someone who was patiently waiting, come up behind her and pushed her to the side to order a beer.... i've never seen something like this. We where so mad it took a while to cool off... Shame, because the hotel mayeb a little expensive but also lovely and the surroundings really interesting and fun.

A very enjoyable stay with a unique atmosphere and a fantastic location next to the Zeche Zollverein. The hotel has a great design and character, the rooms were comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We also appreciated that travelling as a family with our Golden Retriever was easy and welcoming.

Nothing significant. We were very happy with our stay.

Great hotel, the breakfast (and cappuccino) was amazing, friendly staff, very clean everywhere, definitely staying here again.

Everything was more than expected.

Staff English was poor and no warmth.
