About this apartment rental

Discover a side of New York City few visitors ever get to experience.

Imagine staying half a block from Central Park, on a beautiful historic Upper West Side brownstone street, peaceful yet in the very heart of Manhattan. The Dakota is two minutes away, Strawberry Fields four, and Lincoln Center and the Metropolitan Opera just a short walk. Tavern on the Green, the Museum of Natural History, the Beacon Theatre and some of Manhattan's finest cultural landmarks are all close by. Columbus Avenue is lined with wonderful restaurants, cafés and shops, with the world-famous Magnolia Bakery on the corner. Times Square and SoHo are easily reached by subway.

This is the New York people dream of experiencing — but rarely get to live in.

This warm and elegant family home is approximately 2,000 square feet across two floors of a historic brownstone: spacious, light-filled and lovingly furnished. The magnificent living room has an enormous window framing the garden's trees and climbing roses, a Bechstein piano, a Sonos sound system, an oversized comfortable sofa and dimmable lighting. The garden-facing main bedroom has a king-size bed, closet and dresser. Both rooms are exceptionally quiet; you can hear birdsong.

A beautiful separate dining room, with tall bay windows, has silver-plated dinnerware and table linens for special occasions. The well-equipped kitchen includes a gas stove, Vitamix, cookware, spices and everything needed to cook and entertain at home.

Sleeps six. Upstairs are the king bedroom, a smaller bedroom with a wall bunk, and a bathroom with a walk-in shower. Downstairs, with its own entrance, are a bedroom with a twin bed and an additional wall bed, a separate workspace and a second bathroom with a bathtub. The separate bedroom downstairs provides welcome privacy if needed.

Two work desks, one on each floor, fast Wi-Fi, washer/dryer, central AC in the living area and window units in the bedrooms.

The B/C subway is 1 minute away, the 1/2/3 lines a 5-minute walk. SoHo is 20 minutes by subway, Times Square 15. Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Fairway and Zabar's are all a 7–12 minute walk.

A morning walk in Central Park, an evening at the opera, dinner with friends at home — and the pleasure of living in New York as a New Yorker.

What guests say:
"The location is unbeatable, half a block from Central Park."
"Would do it 10 out of 10 times again and will most definitely be returning."
"At nearly 2,000 square feet you have plenty of room to move around, which is a real luxury in NYC."
"It was the first time we slept in New York City and heard birds chirping in the morning instead of sirens and honking horns."
"The spacious dining room was perhaps our favorite room, as it was so bright with large windows that overlooked the street."

This was a one-of-a-kind place to stay, being a spacious Brownstone from the late 1800's within a block's walk to Central Park, subway stations, restaurants, grocery stores, and other merchants. Yet it was on a relatively quiet street. Our goal was to stay for a month and "act like residents." We loved this area because it was primarily locals. It exceeded our expectations in many ways.We wanted some extra space, and this apartment offered that. The primary bedroom was in the back and very peaceful. It was the first time we slept in New York City and heard birds chirping in the morning instead of sirens and honking horns. Really, it was that quiet. We did not use any other sleeping spaces - they are mainly pull-down small twin beds in tight spaces that share sleeping / desk space. There were two areas for working - the main level had a nice office off of the dining room with a desk (plus pull-down "bunk" beds if needed), and work desks downstairs (also with twin beds sharing the spaces). Having a wireless printer was helpful. The WiFi connection was shaky at times; however, there were two WiFi boosters that we reset a few times. The kitchen had almost everything that we needed for cooking. The spacious dining room was perhaps our favorite room, as it was so bright with large windows that overlooked the street. This apartment is a personal residence, not a full-time rental property, meaning that guests may find personal items in the kitchen, closets, etc.

Excellent location and fun street! Halloween and the marathon were esp fun. WiFi wasn’t ideal but otherwise, a fabulous stay. Central Park is just steps away as are so many other choices and activities. Super responsive and prepared host.

We had a wonderful time staying in this lovely apartment. It's hard to find a place for a family of five in Manhattan, but this apartment is really great. The proximity to the park and midtown is super convenient, and of course, being on the upper west side itself is great with kids. Svein was also very responsive and helpful throughout or stay. I can't say enough wonderful things about the experience.
