Greetsiel: A starting point for many beautiful destinations: This romantic fishing village, known far beyond its borders for its twin windmills, is located in Leybucht on Lower Saxony’s Wadden Sea. This North Sea coastal town enchants its visitors and keeps them coming back, particularly because of its exceptional charm. The many old fishermen’s houses, shops, small boutiques, restaurants, cafés, and tea rooms invite you to stroll and relax both day and night. All visitors succumb to Greetsiel’s charm. That is also why every guidebook describes Greetsiel as a must-see destination on the North Sea coast. The 600-year-old harbor is also wonderful, where nearly 30 shrimp boats are moored. Greetsiel, Norddeich, and Emden serve as departure points for trips to the East Frisian Islands. Juist, Borkum, and Norderney are easily accessible, but Spiekeroog, Langeoog, Baltrum, and Wangerooge are also worth a visit.
Krummhörn: the beautiful cultural landscape—the coastal region around Greetsiel offers many attractions for a fun and relaxing vacation. These range from a walk along the North Sea dike (the dike in Greetsiel stretches four kilometers into the North Sea) to a stroll to the Pilsen lighthouse (featured in the movie *Otto*), the view from the lighthouse in Uppleward, a visit to the Moor Moordorf Museum, a tour of the churches in Eilsum (Secoomalerei), camping (freestanding bell tower), and Groothusen (according to the Guinness Book of World Records, the Leaning Tower of Pisa is the world’s most crooked building, but the church in Krummhörn comes close). Another interesting site in Rysum is the old church in the town center, which features a 14th-century organ. In this beautiful village, there is also a very lovely, restored old windmill. There are so many destinations that you can explore on foot or by bike. The Krummhorn region is, above all, a paradise for cyclists and hikers.
Beaches and Canals in the Krummhorn Region :: NORDDEICH is also worth a visit, with its beautiful white-sand beach, wave pool, and seawater seal breeding center. Other attractive seaside resorts include Dornumersiel, Neßmersiel, and Bensersiel. All of these “Sielorte” on the northern coast have sandy beaches and well-developed infrastructure. All of these places are easily accessible by car from Greetsiel or Grimersum. But the many boat tours on the canals around Greetsiel are also a lot of fun. This way, you can get to know East Frisia at its best. But the mudflats shouldn’t be overlooked. At low tide, there are numerous guided mudflat tours that introduce visitors to the uniqueness of this national park. And if that’s not enough, visit the wellness oasis in Greetsiel: a swimming pool, therapeutic massages, North Sea mud wraps, reflexology, and therapeutic baths are all on the menu.
